At the Edge of the Star Ocean

I'm participating in Clip Studio Paint's 24th International Illustration Contest, and here is my entry. The theme for this contest is "Skies, Space and Stars".

My entry is highly experimental, containing no sketch or lineart visible in the final version. I chose a free, painted, unfinished look with a focus on detailing the areas I want viewer attention. Sharing this is intimidating, to be honest!

About the Image
Earth is all alone at the edge of space as the lights of long-forgotten moons slowly blink out. Where's there's hope, though, there's a chance. Maybe we're lucky enough to have someone watching out for us.

Created in Clip Studio Paint with minor touch-ups in Adobe Photoshop.

Check out my entry, here.

Boots the Dog: Gift for Father's Day

Finished a gift for my father, for Father's Day, of our dog, Boots.

Boots stayed with my parents when I moved away, and is eleven years old as of last month. This is a painting of her from when she was four or five years old. I used a photo of mine as reference.

I started early to give myself tonnes of time and ended up finishing it over a week early. Oops! I can't share it with my father just yet, but I'm happy with how this turned out and need to share it somewhere.

2020 May 22: Raffle Prize for Morisato_Reshu

My art raffle ended in late April, and this month I get to work on getting those raffle prizes ready for the winners! Here is the third and final prize. :D

This one is for Morisato_Reshu on Twitter, of their eastern dragon Jensina.

I had a lot of fun with this. It has been a while since I have drawn an anthro of any kind, and the design of this character is really interesting. I loved recreated the glowing markings.

Image created using Adobe Photoshop and Fresco.

Throwback Thursday: Dancing with... from Aug 2005

An image featuring a character from a personal project, named "Rae". (I have redrawn this character recently, and that version is linked below.)

I loved created characters, designing their outfits, and using bright and vibrant colours. I also did a good shop at hiding feet and simplifying hands wherever possible.

Drawn by hand, scanned, and coloured with a mouse in Photoshop. I also made good use of the brushes at my disposal, as seen in the grass. That's a brush... xD

Size: 3000x4500px
Software: Adobe Photoshop CS
Created: August 24th, 2005

2020 May 12: The Rose Umbrella

The Rose Umbrella

As the story goes, The Rose Umbrella is a former priestess who wanders the fields of forgotten souls, the space between life and death. She collects the lost spirits as she walks, giving shelter from a world of abandonment. When recovered, the souls are released to flourish in perfection. A rose.

In an ancient telling, however, it is said The Rose Umbrella is a demon that feeds on the souls of the forgotten dead. As she harvests the souls it is said she has no need for blood... and so the roses fall as she makes her away across the fields of battle.

That last one couldn't be true though, right?

Image is based on a recurring dream. I've had this dream multiple times since news of the pandemic and quarantine arose, and always awaken with a sense of dread despite the beauty in what I'm seeing. There's something just beneath the surface.

Created in Adobe Fresco with touch-ups in Adobe Photoshop.

2020 May 04: Raffle Prize for FallNSkye

My art raffle ended in late April, and this month I get to work on getting those raffle prizes ready for the winners!

One down, two to go. ;D

This one is for FallNSkye on Twitter, of their druid named Kira. I hope I did her justice! It was a challenge to work in more pastel colours, as I tend to go for more saturated ones overall. xD

Created in Adobe Fresco.

There May Be A Birthday

It's May and this month, I'm doing something special on Ko-fi!

My 35th(!) birthday is at the end of this month and I want to give something back to everyone able to support me through ko-fi. So, for the entire month of May I will create a sketch for everyone that makes a donation on my Ko‑fi page during the month. For the donation of one coffee ($3 USD) you will get a sketch from me. Sketches will be in the style of the examples shown on this post. $3 USD will get you a lineart sketch, and I'll add colour to it for an extra coffee (a total of $6 USD.)

Check out the blog for details!

Iris Commission

A commission for my mother-in-law of her irises, part 1 and 2.

I enjoyed the process of this one and learned far more about these kinds of flowers than I ever thought I would. It was a welcome challenge to get them just right.

Image created fully in Adobe Fresco and making use of the live Watercolour Brush for some interesting effects!

The full quote between both images is: "Let us make our future now, and let us make our dreams tomorrow's reality." -Malala Yousafzai

One Week Portrait: Day Four

Here's my work for day four.

I was supposed to have the blending done yesterday, and focus on details today. Instead, I have aimed to do both things to try and catch up. I managed to get my files off of my tablet and onto the PC, and combine multiple files to recover some of my work.

Blending with a mouse makes me really, really, really miss the tablet. This is about all I, and my wrist, feel up to today. I'll be looking for more tricks to mimic the look of using a pen, but also try to find some tricks to help it be easier for me to work with.

I can't believe I used to draw with a mouse in Photoshop all the time.

It's harder than I recall!

Sketchy Elf, Revisited

Earlier this month, I posted a sketch of an elf that I felt inspired to draw. The sketch was done quickly. I like how it turned out, but it wasn't perfect so I made a mental note to come back to it later.

"Later" happened to be three days ago. I have been posting WIP snippets for supporters, but left the updates at about "half finished" two days ago.

I took a break to try out the DTIYS challenge, and finished up this drawing this afternoon. Quite a bit different form the original sketch, isn't it?

Sometimes it takes some trial and error, or error and trials, to get the right look.

Vicky's OC Spaghetti

Vicky (Visodette) is running a Draw This In Your Style (DTIYS) challenge on Twitter (#VisodetteDTIYS) of her original character, Spaghetti.

My submission is posted on Twitter, but I wanted to share here as well. This character was so fun to draw, and it gave me the opportunity to try out a few different things. I must be following a theme lately, with all the pink-haired ladies I have been drawing.

Check out Vicky's Twitter is you're interested in participating, too!

Details of New Artwork

Finished up some new artwork yesterday, which I have been using for cover photos and promotional materials. The full image is up on Ko-fi!

I've been working on this one over the month of February so far, between commissions. This is an original character of mine and part of another project I'm working on.

Check out more of my work on ko-fi!

2020 February 02: Orc

Taking a break this weekend to draw a few images for myself, to be used as examples when I'm ready to offer commissions later this month. Here is the second, a handsome orc that is yet unnamed.

I created a timelapse video of the sketch for this piece, too. If it's something you want to see more of, please do let me know!

Quick Saturday sketch on Ko-fi!

I've a few larger projects ongoing & little to share until they're more complete. I needed a break today, so here's a random elf that took maybe 30 mins total.

2020 January 22: ToonMe Challenge

Decided to give the toonmechallenge a try, after seeing so many awesome and inspiring images from other artists. This was tough! It took a lot to remind myself that it's okay to finish it quickly and not to make it "perfect". It's not often I start and finish an art project in the same day.

Have you done one? Let me know in the comments. I'd love to see it, or even one you're seen that's your favourite!

Stay for a Coffee, and Maybe Buy Me One Too

Stay for a Coffee, and Maybe Buy Me One Too

Made a post on Ko-fi about some changes I'll be making as I prepare to start using Ko-fi Gold, to give fans more access to me and my process.

Here's an excerpt: Over the last few months I have been considering Patreon and Ko‑fi as options to give fans of my work more access to me as a creator. It has taken some consideration, and I have decided to go with... Ko-fi!

Maybe this isn't a surprise as my page has been accessible since October, but the current plan I'm using is Free. The change will be that I'm moving to Ko‑fi Gold, a subscription to both support Ko-fi's development and to give me access to a number of features that I can put to good use for those following and supporting my work.

I am aiming to be ready to go early February.

Any feedback is awesome! Please check out the link for the rest. :D

Those who create art and use kofi or Patreon, which do you prefer and why? I don't need to know what's "better" since it's subjective but getting an idea of what works for people using either platform would be helpful.

I want to use one of them... I know I don't have a lot of followers yet: under 100 between Instagram, Wordpress, Twitter and other social medias.

But it feels like a big decision to make. Like I need to get it right.

I'm more familiar with using Patreon in the subscriber side, but Ko-fi's options appeal as a creator.

I guess the next question is: what do fans prefer, too? Which perform do you prefer your favourite creators use?

Talizmyn on Ko-fi!

For those who don't yet know, I post semi-regularly on Ko-fi and am currently striving to save up for a better tablet than the one I currently use. (You can read more about my goal on my ko-fi page.)

I use the platform to share early or in-progress versions on my work, likelt the one attached here, whether it be sketches, screenshots of photo editing, writing, and more. I use a combination of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Lightroom for my creations, and have recently began to focus on digital art. (Which has always been a passion of mine, but I have been too afraid to persue it.)

I use ArtFlow on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 to create my digital work, and finish it up on PC using Adobe Photoshop CC.

Those interested should definitely check it out. I would love feedback on what you like, what you want to see more of, and any suggestions you may have for what i could share in the future. It's all greatly appreciated.

Want to see more of my work in the wild? I have more links to galleries, portfolios, and shops in my Links page, or check out my linktr.ee!

2019 December 10

I play The Sims 4 a lot, and have been a fan of the franchise since the original Sims game. It might be a bit of an obsession. (Spoiler: It definitely is.)

One thing I never did, though, was create fanart for the series. Until now... I have an adorable fourth generation half-alien human hybrid, named Izola Chevron. Her adorableness has inspired me to create sort of a "profile card" for her. She's missing a trait, as she's not yet a young adult, but that will get filled in later.

This was a fun exercise. I may need to attempt a couple more, for good measure.

Check it out on Ko-fi!
